Starting as a Management Trainee ICICI Ltd. in 1984, she rose to become the Managing Director & CEO of ICICI Bank in 2009. She was also the Chairperson of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company, ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company, ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company and ICICI Securities Ltd.
Chanda Kochhar has been ranked in the TIME Magazine’s ‘100 Most Influential People in the World’, the Forbes List of ‘The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women’, Fortune’s List of ‘50 Global Business persons of the Year’ and the Bloomberg’s List of ‘50 Most Influential people in Global Finance’.
In recognition of her pioneering work, she was named CNBC Asia’s India Business Leader of the year, ‘Business Leader of the Year’ by Economic Times making history as the first woman to receive this award and ‘Business Person of the Year’ by Business India (first woman to receive this award).
A respected voice in global finance, she has served as Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum in Davos and as President of the International Monetary Conference. She has received prestigious accolades, including the ‘Woodrow Wilson Award for Global Corporate Citizenship’ by the Wilson Centre located in Washington DC, USA. In 2011 she was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award.
